Good afternoon folks! I hope your Sunday is going great. I just finished a live broadcast on Ustream explaining my Kickstarter project for a new podcast called Within the Trenches. The podcast would be a live show on Ustream and would feature 9-1-1 dispatchers and their stories. After wrapping up my broadcast I realized that I forgot one main point of the Kickstarter project. The point refers to how and when the money you pledge is applied to the account set aside for this project. If you pledge to this project you will not be charged unless I make the goal amount. For example, I have $1,450 and I need $1,500. If I don’t make that by January 12th, 2013 then no one is charged. With that said, if I don’t make it no one is charged and no one gets their reward. With Kickstarter, it’s an all or nothing venture. Now, I would continue to explain everything but instead I will include the link to the Kickstarter page that shows the pledge amounts and rewards. I will also provide a link to the Ustream broadcast from today. It includes the explanation and a 9-1-1 tape of a co-worker of mine who did an excellent job in getting a guy to stop his car during a two county police chase. The call contains a few choice words but the tape is superb. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Please go to the links below and share and pledge so that we can make this show a reality.Post Views: 121
Good morning to all! I hope you had a happy and safe St. Patricks Day last night. It’s been a while since my last post on Diaper Wars but it’s back and today’s episode is a Florida Edition. My family and I recently returned from vacation but while I was there and on break a few things that involved our cloth adventure occurred. It was interesting enough that I had to write about it.
Before we headed out to Florida I began to worry that it was going to be rather hard to use cloth diapers while traveling by car. To be honest the cloth diapers should have been the least of my worries since my 6 month old daughter Lola hates being in her carseat for X amount of time. I should have been wondering about how my wife and I were going to deal with Lola getting uncomfortable in her seat and possibly screaming over an 18 hour road trip. In the end I did what I always do; think too much about the situation and worry for nothing. The cloth diapers were a snap! It was no problem at all so if you’re worried about cloth on a long road trip and think you might use disposables, DON’T DO IT!. Stick with cloth, it’s simple and better for your child.
The entire time we’ve used cloth diapers we have heard that sun drying takes out the stains better than anything else. Every time I’ve heard this I thought,
“Does it really make that much of a difference?”
I figured it would fade it a little and not much else but man was I wrong! While in Florida, my wife bought some rope and set up a line in her parents yard. Once they were completely dry I was shocked to see that they looked as though we had just bought them! That alone made me want to move back. I couldn’t believe how good they looked and on that note I apologize to my wife Rebecca and my friend Candis of EcoBuns. I stand corrected and from now on, and when we can, the sun will be drying all of our cloth diapers.
Using cloth has been awesome and while on our vacation I got the chance to change Lola’s diaper at Legoland. Yep! You read that right, I changed her diaper at Legoland. Now, it might not seem like much because people change diapers all the time but this was in public. Oh yeah! In public and around a lot of people. What makes this even more awesome was that my wife was feeding her at the time. After all this you’re probably wondering why we didn’t take her to the bathroom to change her right? Well I have an answer for that! The changing tables within the bathroom were set next to the sinks and out in the open. They looked rather dirty to begin with so we did it out in the open. Here, let me set the scene for you. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and my wife and I are sitting on a bench waiting for the rest of our family to come off a roller coaster. There are tons of people walking around us and others taking pictures with a dinosaur made out of Lego’s to the right of us. My wife has a cover over her while feeding Lola and she leans in to ask me a question.
“Hey can you change Lola’s diaper?”
“WHAT!? RIGHT HERE IN FRONT OF EVERYONE?”
“Why not? I’m covered right now and you can use it to cover her.”
Believe me when I say that I was completely freaked out and uncomfortable. My wife looked at me like I was being a fool and she had every reason to because I was being a fool. So there we are, on the bench, my wife is feeding Lola, and I’m waiting for my moment to change her diaper. As I’m getting the pre-fold and cover ready, my wife slips off the diaper.
“What are you doing? I’m not ready!”
We began to laugh and I was trying to hurry. In my mind it took forever and everyone was staring at us and giving us dirty looks but in reality we were ninja’s because we actually changed her diaper with a quickness without anyone knowing what was going on. I think at the end of it I belted out,
“Yeah! That’s how we do it!”
And my wife responded with,
“You’re a dork.”
I am a dork and all in all the trip was a success and I was worried for nothing. The Diaper Wars Saga continues and going strong. GroVia seems to be leading the pack but we always go back to Pre-folds. My wife has developed a few folding techniques for our Pre-folds and I swear I have to watch her do it several times before I can get it right. It’s been pretty interesting. I’m glad we got the opportunity to use cloth diapers with Lola and stay tuned for more adventures. Cheers and may the cloth be with you!Post Views: 123
Hello folks and happy Saturday to all! It’s been a while since I’ve written a post for Diaper Wars. I do apologize for this but in all honesty I have not had a lot of material to go off of. Sure I have my little girl who is growing and growing but with my work schedule I don’t get to change a lot of her diapers. My wife and I are still using cloth and loving every moment of it. Our little Lola is growing so fast and Logan is doing great as a big brother. It seems as though both of our kids have hit a growth spurt recently. Logan is eating as much as I do and he looks like a towering 7 year old at 4 feet 4inches. Lola will be 5 months old in one day and she’s rolling over by herself and sitting up by herself. It’s amazing to see her grow and learn new things. The look on her face when she rolls over is priceless! She looks around at everyone and smiles. You can tell how happy she is that she rolled over on her own. It makes me very proud to see my children grow and learn.
So what’s been going on with the cloth? Well, I have found that I really dig GroVia shells. There is nothing better than changing a diaper, unsnapping the insert and adding another one. That’s of course only if there wasn’t a mess. If there was a mess and it’s on the shell, I don’t recommend using the same one. In my last Diaper Wars post I noted that I liked Drybees. After writing that post I began to notice that Lola was wetting out of them overnight. Even during the day it seemed to only happen with the Drybees and I thought, maybe we should do away with this brand. We changed our daughter regularly so it should not have been a problem but something was off. I had planned on writing a post about it to see what all of you thought and if you had any suggestions but when I mentioned it to my wife she said not to.
“Wait! Don’t write anything on it.”
“I figured something out and it works great.”
The solution? My wife took one of our newborn pre-folds and inserted it into the sleeve of the Drybees diaper. I can now say that everything is cool in the gang with Drybees and my daughters bum is safe from any slight redness. On the topic of redness of the bum, we found that the best thing for this is Grandma El’s. It took the redness away and it works fast. Yeah…I know, a plug for Grandma El’s but it’s pretty good stuff. Everything is good in clothland but a new battle within the Diaper Wars has begun. Remember my mention of my daughter growing and how much progress she has shown? Well, she has begun kicking like you wouldn’t believe when her diaper is being changed. She will try and turn over while I’m working on the velcro and she also pulls her leg up and she’ll hold her foot. It makes it hard and all she can do is laugh and smile. I have to move fast because once I have one side done she will kick up or turn to the side and shift her diaper. I then have to start all over and hope I can move faster than her.
It’s definitely been a fun experience using cloth diapers. What’s been even more fun is figuring out how to put little tights on my daughter. You would think this would be easy for anyone but if you’re a man with his first daughter it’s a learning process…well, at least for me. I have struggled with her tights for some time now and last week it took me about 10 minutes before I finally got them on. I was getting frustrated because Lola kept kicking and finally on that same day I figured it out. I rolled them down to the point that only the part that went over her foot was there. I inserted the first one and I swear I did a backflip because I conquered the mighty tights. I know I probably sound like a fool but I’ll admit it. Men are stubborn and I could’ve asked my wife but I had to figure it out myself. Now it’s a piece of cake and the next time something like this comes up I’ll ask my wife first. Yeah…I don’t believe that either. I will eventually but hey, like I said, men are stubborn. So things have been excellent and cloth diapers are the way to go for us. We have found things that work and some that don’t. The adventures will last and the Diaper Wars continue.
