Melon Heads And A Yellow Motel – A West Michigan Mystery Part 2

In my previous post I spoke of the melon or wobble heads of West Michigan. They have been said to live in the woods of Laketown Township by the Felt Mansion. It's a story that has spread across the area but another story amazes me for it's connection to the ruthless gangster, Al Capone. Growing up I heard of the Yellow Motel within the Pullman area of Allegan County. It was said to be haunted by the murder victims of Capone. The gangster and his men would frequent the Yellow Motel back when he was Read more [...]

Melon Heads and A Yellow Motel – A West Michigan Mystery Part 1

I have always been fascinated by ghosts and the unexplainable. The horror genre is my favorite and two local stories have always been a topic of interest. Growing up I heard stories of melon heads in West Michigan. I figured it was simply a story to scare me into good behavior but as I got older I continued to hear the story but in more detail. The story I heard was that of an asylum next to the Felt Mansion that housed the insane as well as children with "melon heads". They were abused, treated Read more [...]

Notes for the Living – Ep. 2

Fennville, MI I’m waiting here at the building behind the post office. I left Bird’s Eye because of what I saw. A group of people have been sick. I don’t know if it has to do with the chemicals here but after a while they attacked other workers. I saw one of them bite a chunk out of Alex’s neck. His blood sprayed the walls. I ran as fast as I could from the building. That incident was days ago. When I got here all I could hear were screams over the radios. I don’t know what’s going Read more [...]

The Creative Corner – A Zombie Story

A while back I had come up with an idea where people could be involved in a zombie apocalypse. Their involvement would be shown by the messages they left behind for the living. It started out well and was hot for a bit but the big picture was lost when I became too busy for my own creation. It sucked because there were some good entries but I couldn't keep up with it. It was on an entirely separate blog and after a while I just lost sight of it. So now I'm bringing it back. I'm thinking of taking Read more [...]

Happy Jason Voorhees Day!

Good morning and happy Jason Voorhees Day! It's Friday the 13th and it's a day that is considered to be bad luck among the superstitious. To go along with many historical facts that point to this day of bad luck we have the ever popular Jason Voorhees. If you don't know who this fictional character is then you need to rent the movie...wait, rent? Are there still rental stores around? I think everything is either online or compacted into a Redbox or Blockbuster Express. Either way though you can Read more [...]

In Search of Silent Hill

Ever since I was a kid I have had a fascination with all things horror. I know, I'm a weirdo but it's true. I dig what lurks in the darkness and things that go bump in the night. I grew up in Fennville, MI and my house was haunted. Now, I know that not everyone believes in ghosts or haunted houses but this home was definitely haunted. When you're able to hear kids asking for help through the vents, it's something that lets you know you're not alone. There's more to my house but I won't go into it Read more [...]

Notes for the Living – A message for those left behind.

Horror movies are my genre of choice. Out of all things horror, my favorites involve Zombies. Almost anything that deals with a Zombie Apocalypse is good in my book. The leaders of my fascination have to be, “The Walking Dead” on AMC and the video game, “Left 4 Dead” on the Xbox 360. If something like this really happened, I would expect it to look how it’s portrayed on the previously mentioned show or game. So what if it really happened? Where would you go? If you were split from Read more [...]
