Within The Trenches – The Bonds We Build

When you work somewhere for a long time it eventually feels like a second home. You build friendships, you laugh, you share stories and you bond. Hours and hours are spent with co-workers. So much time is spent with them that they become your second family. Everyone has his or her work family. This post is about mine. If you don’t already know from previous posts, I work as a 9-1-1 supervisor. What that means is that I not only do the duties of a 9-1-1 operator but I also oversee an entire team. Conversations that last a lifetime…

Crazy things happened to us throughout our lives. People come and go but it's the conversations that last a lifetime. This past Tuesday I had a conversation with my team, and a couple officers. The conversation was hilarious and it involved a time when I had gone to the Old Country Buffett with my wife and our friends. We had been there for a while and of course, I had to use the restroom. So I got up and went for it. I usually try to wait until I get home because public restrooms suck but I couldn't Read more [...]

School dances, and young love.

Yesterday I had a conversation with my co-workers that made me think about the school dances I went to in middle school. We talked about the music that was played and if we had a date or not. As they spoke I flashed back to my '92 - '93 6th grade year. This was the year that I discovered what some people, mostly my 6th grade teachers, call puppy love. It was also the year that my parents got on my case because of said puppy love. Throughout the beginning of the year I developed a crush on a girl Read more [...]

Remembering Family Through Humor

A good sense of humor is a quality that I look for in people. My sense of humor has always been outrageous and if you have been keeping up with my posts then you know first hand how true this is. I try to see the humor in everything really, but where did this come from? Has it been passed down through generations of family or was it a few specific family members that led the way? I think my entire family has a good sense of humor but there were a few people that really stood out. They helped mold Read more [...]

Top 5 NES Games of All Time

Whether you're an avid gamer or not, you have to admit that at one time in your life you played the classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The video game console was introduced in 1986. The system was headlined with Super Mario Bros. and some releases included Duck Hunt. What made this system revolutionary was the use of the zapper that came with it. Ducks would fly from the field and you could shoot them down. If for some reason you missed one of the ducks the dog in the game would stand up Read more [...]

Don’t worry, they don’t get it.

Earlier today I was watching "The Adventures of Ichabod Crane and Mr. Toad" when something struck me funny. In one part of the Ichabod Crane portion of the movie, there is a song that tells a few things about him. Bing Crosby Who's the town's ladies' man? Chorus Gets around like nobody can? Bing Crosby Has to be none other than Together Ichabod, Ichabod Crane Now as a kid, we don't pay attention to everything that is being said in the song. I immediately began to laugh because of the Read more [...]

Partner in crime…my Z28 Camaro

I'm sure everyone remembers their first car. Whether it was a piece of crap or something decent, the vehicle is remembered because it was our first and it got us from point A to point B. As for me my first car was a 1983 Z28 Camaro. Yep, you read that right, a 1983 Z28 Camaro. Now, my family didn't have a lot of money but they bought this for me so that I would have something to drive. Oh yeah, did I mention I was 13 at the time? I know what you're thinking, "This kid was spoiled", but that wasn't Read more [...]

Pre-electronic addiction – The small things in life.

Before my complete addiction to electronics there were the small things in life. Smartphones had not exploded in popularity and the Internet was most likely a working idea. The only real addiction I had at the time were with video games but that was nothing compared to our need to stay connected these days. Back then I remember having my needs met with a simple Big Stuf Oreo cookie. I don't see them around much anymore but when they first came out they were awesome! The package consisted of one large Read more [...]

As much as I can…

Making memories is huge for me. I love taking pictures of my family whenever I get the chance. It can probably get annoying since my phone is attached to my hip and I'm constantly pulling it out but I want to catch moments to reflect on. Even when I don't have the camera out I like to do things that are special. They can be the smallest things but those are the one we remember most right? I have been thinking a lot about my family and the time I have spent with my son. There are a lot of things he Read more [...]

Adventures in Video Gaming.

When I was growing up the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was it. Almost every game was gold and it was fun. Super Mario Bros., Castlevania, Bad Dudes, Duckhunt and others were at the head of the game. My personal favorite was Mega Man and to me this game was the most challenging. The video games of today are awesome and way beyond the games of the NES and Sega Master System age but you can't beat the classics. With all the awesome games that hit in the 80's and 90's, and the pure fun of it, Read more [...]
