Bummis, Snappi’s, Cloth!

It's been five days since my daughter was born. I have fallen head over heels for my daughter and who would have guessed that I would love using cloth diapers as well? When my son was in diapers it seemed so easy to change him, throw away the diaper, and put on a new one. The convenience was there but the cost was up the roof. Now, I know that this is normal and I'm not one to complain about this but it seems that cloth diapers, in the long run, will save me a lot of money. This I like. I dig the Read more [...]

2 weeks and counting…

Woooooooo! Two weeks and counting my fellow Jabber Loggers! Yesterday made the birth of my daughter more of a reality. My wife and I had to meet with one of the advisors of the hospital in order to pre-register so that we did not have to do it when my wife goes into labor. The hospital is very nice and it's pretty peaceful as well. I'm sure it won't be all that peaceful when my wife is crushing my hand while dealing with a killer contraction but oh well. I helped make the child so I might as well Read more [...]

Cloth diapers, Real food, New age hippie?

So the wife and I have recently decided to make some changes in our lives to better ourselves and our children. It all began with our decision, and some help from a good friend at EcoBuns, to try out cloth diapers with our daughter Lola who will be here around September 1st of this year. We are very excited about our new adventure and if you didn't know, I will be documenting my journey in a segment called "Diaper Wars". This is the first stage of an eye opening experience. The second stage involves Read more [...]

Soundtrack to my life: Episode I

"The entertainment for this evening is not new, you've seen this entertainment through and through you have seen your birth, your life, your death....you may recall all the rest. Did you have a good world when you died - enough to base a movie on?" — Jim Morrison (An American Prayer) I am 30 years old and I can safely say that I have lived a crazy enough life so far to base a movie on. From what you have read on Jabber Log you might agree that some of the stories would be great to see on film. Read more [...]

Preparing for the Riffraff

If you didn't know already my wife is expecting our second child and we're having a girl. Lola Mae Martinez will be making her debut around September 1st and I can't help but wonder about the future. WTF am I going to do when the time comes that the Riffraff starts coming around? I know I should concentrate on the present but really what I am looking for here is to see how others deal with their daughters and the Riffraff that follow them around. The thought plagues my brain because I know damn Read more [...]

The best of you

In honor of Father's Day I would like to take this time to talk about my father who is pictured on the left. Yes, on the left, the one with the bright white "Don King" hair. Although we've had our share of quarrels I thank you for everything you have done for me. You were very strict and hard on me but I thank you because I was able to develop a work ethic like no other. My sense of music is mostly because of you. Every trip we took to Texas when I was growing up I remember everyone crashed out late Read more [...]

Do you want a happy birthday?

Today I confirmed that I have developed the highly useful "Look of Discipline" (LOD). You know that look right? It's the look that your parents gave you when you were acting up and once you saw it you knew you were toast. I gave this look to my seven year old today at church and he knew I was not messing around. When I turned back I had to hold back from laughing because it made me think of all the times I saw that look from my parents. It was mostly my father who gave the look but when it came from Read more [...]
