In two days I will graduate.

I have been in school since 2006. It has been a long time coming but it's going to be worth it. In my six years of schooling I have acquired an Associate's of Applied Science in Web Development and in two days I will have a Bachelor's of Science in Graphic Design. I have learned a lot but because I work so much I have actually lost some of my coding knowledge from the first degree. It sucks but since I was going to school for something similar to my first degree I have been able to brush up on my Read more [...]

Mr. Mars Mr. Mars may we travel through your stars?

Throughout this school year I have heard my 7 year old son talk about what he’s doing in P.E. He’s been doing things like roller skating and gymnastics. It sounds cool but what about all the fun games? Sure roller-skating is fun and learning how to tumble and flip is cool but where are all the fun games? You know, the ones I used to play when I was his age. Let’s take a trip to the late 80’s and early 90’s. When I was in school I had the privilege of playing games like Mr. Mars. You Read more [...]

From grade school dances to the big show.

Hot on the heels of my last post based on grade school dances comes Prom. You remember Prom right? Well, so do I and had I combined everything in my last post it would have been huge. Instead I decided to break it up into two different posts to make it less drawn out. So depending on your school era, what do you remember about your prom? Was it the fancy clothes, the dancing, the food, the limo, the big hair? I know what you're thinking, big hair? Yes, certain era's had big hair and actually every Read more [...]

What made school so cool back then.

I remember grade school being pretty fun. There was a different learning tool every year. Some seemed stupid back then but looking back at it now, I see where it helped. Some learning tools came with incentives and if it had not been for that I might not have read as much. I mean, I enjoyed reading back then but I would rather write than read. Now years later I have a 7 year old and yesterday he revealed a program that I used to participate in and it shot me back to grade school. “I’m going Read more [...]

A violation of norms

Social norms within our society are a big deal. Everyone wants to fit in and sometimes our need to belong can lead us away from truly being who we are. I have always been known to be animated and pretty much a dork. I like to have a good time and I don’t like to miss a chance to play the fool. When I read over this assignment for class I knew it was going to be fun. We were given two options for this assignment and the first option was to go out in public and violate social norms. We were to document Read more [...]

Another chapter of FAIL – Joostberns Style

To continue my memories of FAIL, I thought I would share a story that involves a teacher of mine from high school. As I've stated in previous posts almost every lesson I have learned has been the hard way and this one is no exception. In high school I had a teacher named Mr. Joostberns and he taught several classes but the two I had with him were Government and History. Joostberns was an interesting and unique teacher. When the bell rang he would leave us with a final thought. Those included, "Smoke Read more [...]
